Mentor Program :: Applicant Information
Who Should Apply? Appropriate applicants will have professional or doctoral degrees and previous training in research methods appropriate for their disciplines. Applicants are not expected to have conducted disaster research but should have evidence of previous interest in the field and scholarly potential. The program is intended for U.S. citizens and residents. Women and members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Application Procedure Applicants should first contact Fran Norris, Project Director, for a preliminary discussion of the suitability of the program relative to the applicants career goals and situation. Applicants prepare a 5-page prospectus that is reviewed by faculty prior to admission. This prospectus outlines the applicants (a) long-term career goals, (b) objectives to be met by participating in the program, and (c) timeline. Applicants may explore a range of topics that intersect with disaster mental health, including but not limited to psychiatric epidemiology, acute and chronic reactions, risk and protective factors, intervention and services research, social functioning, and influence of gender, ethnicity, culture, or class.
When to Apply Applicants may apply and begin the program at any time during the year. However, only four awards can be granted per year (July June), and thus immediate acceptance and entrance cannot be guaranteed. |
